Audubon California this evening issued the following statement from Executive Director Brigid McCormack following the Legislature's approval of a new water bond for the November ballot:

"The ongoing drought reinforces the need for California's elected leadership to put a water bond before the voters that provided long-term solutions for communities, farms, and the environment. The water bond approved this evening recognizes that any long-term strategies for water use in California must include the needs of migratory birds that rely so heavily on the habitat in our state for survival. A prime example is in the Central Valley, where wildlife refuges provide vital habitat for millions of migratory birds and need adequate water. This bond helps us keep a promise to provide water for these habitats, and ensure that Californians have an opportunity to enjoy the great natural wonder of these birds for generations to come. This bond offers hope for birds and other wildlife in California."
