A new bill introduced in Sacramento would exempt fireworks displays from Coastal Act protections, including a review from the California Coastal Commission. In 2008, the Coastal Commission barred a fireworks show in the Mendocino County town of Gualala after environmentalists, including the local Audubon chapter, demonstrated conclusively that it was harming nesting seabirds.
