Louis Sahagun of the Los Angeles Times takes a closer look at the controversy over solar energy development in the Panoche Valley. Audubon California has already stated that a massive solar plant on this landscape raises serious concerns for birds and wildlife. The area is a Globally Significant Important Bird Area, which hosts 12 sensitive bird species, including the Mountain Plover, which is currently under review by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to be listed as Threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
