How this writer for the online magazine Slate seems to find so much that is ominous in birding is pretty mind-boggling. Seriously, people like birds and make it a point to go out and watch them. What's hard to understand about that? If he feels this way about birding, what must he think of ice skating or, heaven forbit, oil painting.
