The Piute Fire in Kern County yesterday approached, but did not enter the Kelso Creek Sanctuary, which is part of the Kern River Preserve. Alison Sheehey, the Preserve's outreach manager, took a series of photos as the fire approached a nearby ridge. Although the threat to Kelso Creek seems to have waned, fire continues to rage throughout the area of the Preserve.
