Like what you see at Bolsa Chica? Thank her

Great article in the Orange County Register about Flossie Horgan, who was the driving force behind the formation of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust, which has helped preserve amazing habitat for birds.

She had heard about the 1,700-acres in Huntington Beach, land that was slated for more than 4,000 homes and a marina, but she didn't get a first-person look at it until March of 1992. Instead of her jogging her regular route, she ran the trail at Warner toward the mesa point. "It was spring ... All the birds were in the trees singing... And, really, I just stopped dead. "I said: This is already a housing development. The birds live here. They can't build houses here."

Bolsa Chica Wetlands are an Audubon Important Bird Area.
