Breaking through

New channel successfully formed in Sonoma Creek Marsh restoration project. This marks middle point of construction on new Ridgway's Rail habitat.

A milestone was had by the Sonoma Creek Marsh restoration team yesterday. Their strategy of digging a new channel from two points proved a success as water came flowing through. What they did can essentially be described as breaking the existing creek. This flow of new water will change what was once a stagnant body of water that little deserved the given name of marsh into a functioning wetland. The next major milestone for the project will be the installation of a temporary rubber dam that will hold back this water as construction crews continue dredging.
