Dr. Bertel Bruun, designer and co-author of the landmark birding guide, 'Birds of North America,' passed at his home on Long Island September 21. His guidebook was first published in 1966 and has sold over four million copies worldwide. An amateur ornithologist, Dr. Bruun was a neurologist by trade. In addition to writing guidebooks, Dr. Bruun was a major leader in conservation efforts in the Middle East. He will be missed.
