There have been several sightings today of Long-billed Dowitchers in the Berkeley area of California.
The sewing-machine like shorebird is headed to the northernmost parts of Alaska and Siberia where it spends its summer.
Long-billed Dowitchers are like sewing machines in that they move their nerve-rich bill to hammer into mud and shallow water to seek prey.
