Which came first? In this case it was the chicken

A first happened in Sri Lanka the other day, a chicken gave birth to a chick that didn't have an egg, perhaps answering the age old question, which came first, the chicken or the egg?

The chick survived but its mother didn't. The chick's egg was incubated in the hen for 21 days and the chick arrived fully hatched. An autopsy conducted on the hen revealed that the eggs stayed in her reproductive system and that she died from internal wounds.

This is one of the first reported cases of this occurring.
