Pounding for Plovers party with Pacifica Audubon
The Pacifica Shorebird Alliance hopes to reverse the birds' 75% decline during the past twelve years. The project will involve pounding in posts, stringing cable between them, and attaching signs made by local school children. The area to be protected is a fifty foot wide sliver of beach west of the dunes north of Crespi Drive at Highway.
WHEN: Friday, August 15, 8:30 a.m.- noon (or earlier)

Wetland restoration with Golden Gate Audubon
Work to plant native shrubs and weed out the invasives at our site adjacent to Arrowhead Marsh in East Oakland. Brown Pelicans swoop into the bay and Clapper Rails chatter in the marsh.
WHEN: Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
WHERE: Martin Luther King Jr. Shoreline Park, Oakland. From I-880 in Oakland, exit at Hegenberger Road and head west. Turn right onto Doolittle Drive (Hwy. 61) and right again onto Swan Way. You will then turn left into the park and drive to the last parking lot near the observation tower. See attached map

Crissy Field – Beach Cleanup with Golden Gate Audubon
In partnership with the National Park Service, monthly beach cleanups for the Snowy Plover and other shorebirds are held at Crissy Field in San Francisco. All equipment (gloves, pickers and buckets) are provided by the NPS. A commitment to learn more about the Snowy Plovers and their environment and assistance at six or more beach cleanups per year is requested.
