San Francisco, CA – As voters in nine Bay Area counties go to the polls to decide the fate of Measure AA, Audubon California Executive Director Brigid McCormack expressed thanks for all the support for San Francisco Bay. Called the Clean and Healthy Bay Ballot Measure, Measure AA will raise approximately $500 million for wetlands restoration throughout the region.

“While we await the election results, this is a good time to reflect on the tremendous outpouring of support for San Francisco Bay and the birds and habitat that it supports,” said Audubon California Executive Director Brigid McCormack. “We’ve also seen a broad consensus that a clean and healthy bay is vital not just for birds and the environment, but for the health of our communities and businesses, as well.”

More than a million shorebirds and waterfowl use San Francisco Bay habitat at the height of migration, and the area includes twelve spots designated as Important Bird Areas due to the high number of rare and endangered bird species as well as the sheer number of birds supported by the bay and surrounding wetlands.
