This week, the Sacramento Bee published an excellent piece on how grebe populations in northern California might be impacted by climate change. The article also highlighted the grebe monitoring and outreach work of three of our chapters, Altacal, Plumas, and Redbud. The barn owls at the Audubon Starr Ranch Sanctuary in Orange County, CA have two eggs!  This still was captured on the morning of January 23rd while the owl was about to enjoy a meal.  You can see one of the eggs here and just a few hours after this was captured a second egg arrived.

Sixteen Girl Scouts ages 9-10 and their leaders visited Starr Ranch earlier this week on a sunny but warm day to do our "cougars, bobcats, and coyotes" program with seasonal staff, Kim and Liz and become wildlife biologists for a day. Here Kim is showing them an Acorn Woodpecker granary/ telephone pole where many years of acorns are stored.
