Fascinating piece in the New York Times over the weekend about the increasing challenged that migratory shorebirds face on their incredible journeys across the globe. Audubon, in partnership with dozens of international conservation organizations, recently unveiled a plan for the conservation of Pacific Flyway shorebirds throughout their migration area.
This weekend, Owens Lake was named a Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network site of international importance. That's not bad for a habitat area that just a few years ago hosted a small group of birds clinging to the last vestiges of habitat. The story of the lake's transformation is one of great perseverance. We at Audubon California are proud of the part we have played in the area's comeback.
