According to a report from the Associated Press, veterinarians at the Los Angeles Zoo have treated 21 endangered California Condors for lead poisoning this hunting season. Officials correlate the lead poisoning with the increase in lead ammunition being left in the field. Audubon California recently joined with the Humane Society of the United States and Defenders of Wildlife to pass Assembly Bill 711, which will eventually phase out the use of lead ammunition for all hunting in California.
