25th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day is this Saturday, Sept. 19

The public service announcement below for the 25th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, coming this Saturday, Sept. 19, has a rather startling bird theme -- and this highlights how important the issue of trash in our waterways is to birds. The event is sponsored by the California Coastal Commission, and is the largest event of its kind in the country. In 2008, more than 70,000 volunteers cleaned up more than 1,600,000 pounds of garbage from California's beaches, lakes, and waterways. Many California Audubon chapters will be taking part, as well as a number of our partnering organizations. Learn more and get involved.
