Ten years ago today, something historic happened. On that day, people gathered in Debs Park, Los Angeles’ fourth largest park, to plant a coast live oak -- a ceremonial first step in the construction of the Audubon Center at Debs Park. School children, elected officials, and other supporters were all on hand to celebrate the occasion. On that day, Audubon promised to offer unique outdoor science and nature programs for some of Los Angeles’ most underserved children. It stands now as a place for children and their families to learn, enjoy and be inspired through nature—a permanent resource for the community. (above, City Councilman Ed Reyes helps plant the oak).
