Audubon chapters doing amazing work protecting nesting Western and Clark's Grebes

Folks from Audubon California and three local chapters met earlier this week in Clear Lake to talk about our ongoing project to protect breeding Western and Clark’s Grebes in four northern California lakes. Also present were representatives from the Luckenbach Trustee Council, which is funding this project from settlements arising from oil spills that harmed grebes in the open ocean. We could go on, but suffice to say that Redbud Audubon, Altacal Audubon, and Plumas Audubon are doing an amazing job so far in spreading the word to lake visitors about the importance of protecting the nesting grebes, but also monitoring and documenting breeding success at their sites. This project continues to be an amazing example of the conservation power of Audubon at the local level. (Photo of Western Grebe by USFWS)
