The vote is in -- and we won. Assembly Bill 2223, which will ban lead shot in state wildlife areas, just passed in the Assembly, 46-27. On to the Senate! Audubon California is pushing this bill because many sensitive bird populations on state wildlife areas are being exposed to lead in the form of spent lead shot. Not only are waterfowl populations at risk, but so are upland birds such as Mourning Dove and California Quail. Top level predators like the Golden Eagle, Great-horned Owl and Redtailed Hawk are also being needlessly exposed to the toxic impacts of spent lead shot ammunition.
