If you've been following this issue, you know that the Altamont Pass wind energy farm has long been a black eye on the alternative energy industry because of the massive numbers of birds that are killed in the turbines. The fight against this outrage has been led by Golden Gate Audubon and a coalition of Bay Area chapters. The good news this week is that, thanks to their efforts, bird deaths at Altamont are down significantly. As the article notes, the chapters are pleased at the trend, but will continue to work with the energy developers at Altamont because lots of birds are still dying unnecessarily. We commend Golden Gate Audubon and the other Bay Area chapters for their hard work on this important issue.
