Birds turn up in the darndest places

One of the worst kept secrets among Northern California birders for quite some time has been a series of wastewater oxidation ponds near the Chico Water Pollution Control Plant. Seems this has been a unique hotspot for birds and migratory waterfowl, and some of the largest numbers of rare birds in the area seem to find their way there. This weekend, members of Altacal Audubon Society and others are celebrating several improvements to the facility that will make access much easier. Featured in the story is Altacal President Scott Huber -- who also happens to sit on the Audubon California Board of Directors.
