A blue bird, but not a bluebird

There's something about a bird colored blue, and among the birds colored that way, few are more spectacular than the Lazuli Bunting. Wintering along the western coast of mainland Mexico, the Lazuli Bunting pours northward in April, filling most of non-desert California, Oregon, Washington -- really the western United States, up through Canada. Right now, we're starting to get a bunch. Check out the eBird maps below the fold:

Take a look at March. A few sightings in Arizona, but not much at all:

But now look at the first 15 days of April:
