California chapters working to save the Burrowing Owl

Want to get involved in Burrowing Owl conservation? Check-out what your local Audubon chapter is up to. Here is a list of some great programs being held around the state:

Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society

Their Environmental Advocate, Shani Kleinhaus, and the Environmental Action Committee have been diligently advocating for the preservation, restoration and enhancement of the Burrowing Owl and its habitat in cities along the bay. Watch the above documentary for more inspiration. Santa Clara Valley is looking for Burrowing Owl advocates and educators. Contact Shani for more information.

Golden Gate Audubon Society

The Golden Gate Audubon Burrowing Owl Docent Program educates the public about the owls and encourages their conservation and protection.  This cooperative effort between the Golden Gate Audubon Society, the City of Berkeley Marina and the Shorebird Nature Center has been successfully implemented for the past six years. Contact volunteer@goldengateaudubon.org  for more information.

Mount Diablo Audubon Society

Mount Diablo Audubon Society is proud to support the Urban Bird Foundation and its work to improve habitat for Burrowing Owls. They urge everyone to learn about this fine organization and to offer support as well. Learn more here: http://urbanbird.org/our-work/programs/burrowing-owl-conservation/

Wintu Audubon Society

Using a grant from Audubon California, members of Wintu Audubon and other local bird enthusiasts constructed eight artificial burrows for Burrowing Owls in Chico. Find out how to help by sending a contact form here.

If we've missed anyone, please include your chapter's program in the comments!
