California Legislature launches new climate proposals

California State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León yesterday announced a broad package of climate change proposals that leaders hope will further reduce the state's reliance on fossil fuels. Audubon California Executive Director Brigid McCormack was on hand at the event to support the new proposals.

“Taking aggressive action on carbon pollution helps us protect two of California’s greatest assets – our diverse communities and our natural treasures,” McCormack, said. “Recent Audubon research shows that more than 170 birds face a dire future unless we to address global warming. But beyond that, we deserve clean air to breathe and the ability to enjoy our beautiful outdoor places.”

While the message from de León and other Senate leaders was how advancing the state's climate goals will benefit the economy, McCormack noted that "doing renewable energy right means not have to choose between environmental health and economic growth."
