Chickadees and other birds with beak deformities first started appearing in Anchorage, Alaska in the 1990s. The problem is spreading, with deformities now in Fairbanks, Alaska, south to Puget Sound, and even as far away as Great Britain. New research shows contaminants may be the cause.
