Color in motion: Violet-green Swallows

Love this photo of a Violet-green Swallow by Peter LaTourrette (his photos have been gracing our Pacific Migration project, you may have noticed). It shows all the color of the bird, but also makes it look just like bullet. So cool. Anyway, we noticed a few listserv posts this evening from Los Angeles talking about the birds, and couldn't help sharing this. As the video below shows, it's a lively species:

The Violet-green Swallow has actually been in California for a few weeks, as the maps below the fold indicate.
