Cooper's Hawks on the move

While the migration of most species of hawks in California is somewhat hard to track given the large number of year-round birds that reside here (Swainson's being the notable exception), spring will put a lot of raptors on the move. Among these is the Cooper's Hawk, the adaptable crow-size bird that is known for blasting through very close woodland cover in search of smaller birds and mammals. Anyway, even though a large number of these birds reside in California year-round, a great number of them are coming up out of their wintering spots in Mexico as well. Moreover, the birds in California are likely to be shifting to breeding sites. Check out this video of one at a nature preserve in Newport Beach from last November:
