Looks as though the Western Kingbird is starting to make an appearance in California. This feisty little bird is coming a pretty fair distance, too, arriving from southern Mexico and Central America, where it has been wintering. We've got some illustrative maps below, courtesy the good folks at eBird. By the way, if you don't think the Western Kingbird is feisty, check out this awesome photo of one defending its territory against a Red-tailed Hawk.
