How will state budget cuts impact conservation?

That's a good question, and one that lots of people in our business are asking. With the failure of the budget-related ballot initiatives last week, all of Sacramento is talking about the substantial cuts that will be necessary to get the state’s fiscal situation under control. We’re watching carefully to see what impact all this will have on conservation. While no specific proposals have emerged from the legislative fog, some rumors have caught our attention. Actions officials are apparently considering include cutting all funding to the California Conservation Corps, eliminating of general fund support for State Parks, and substantial fee increases at State Parks. Trust that Audubon California will continue to monitor the discussions in Sacramento and keep you informed as best we can.
