Word today that the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power may drop plans for a controversial transmission line project through pristine desert habitat east of the San Bernardino Mountains. The city said that it will likely focus its efforts alongside highway corridors where high voltage lines already exist. Conservationists had expressed deep concerns that the preferred alternative for the project would cut through unspoiled wildlife habitat areas.
