Looking for Western Snowy Plovers in Los Angeles

Audubon California went out with members of the Los Angeles Audubon Society this week as they did their regular monitoring of Western Snowy Plover populations on Los Angeles County beaches. While the video doesn't show the plovers very well, it does demonstrate some of the unique challenges of restoration and conservation in urban areas. This video was shot on Dockweiler State Beach, one of the more "urban" beaches one is likely to find in California, and yet it is also essential habitat for the Western Snowy Plover. Big thanks to Los Angeles Audubon for allowing us to tag along.

You can find out a lot more about how local chapters L.A. Audubon, Palos Verdes/South Bay Audubon, and Santa Monica Audubon are working to protect Western Snowy Plovers on Los Angeles County beaches here.
