Audubon California received an interesting call from the suburbs of Chicago. A woman spotted what she believed to be a California Quail at the bird feeder in her backyard. Dan, as she named the bird was confirmed to be in fact a California Quail by our bird experts. The breed doesn’t naturally hang-out in the Midwest and the speculation of how Dan came to the fine state of Illinois began. Did he hop a train like a 1920's hobo? Was he someone’s pet who got loose?
