The latest Newsweek Magazine has an interesting article that probes the brewing controversy between advocates of wind energy and those who fear for the safety of birds. The article highlights the problems at Altamont in Northern California, which has long been a problem for birds. On this subject, Audubon California has been very clear that we feel that wind power has incredible potential to stem the rise in global greenhouse gases that pose a serious threat to birds. But we feel that wind turbines need to be properly sited to avoid large impacts to birds.
