Let's just start calling this the oil company initiative, because that's really what it is. Anyway, the Texas oil companies have succeeded in qualifying their initiative to suspend California's groundbreaking climate change legislation. Their ability to do this was never really in question, once they threw their millions behind the effort. The con that they're trying to sell is that regulating global greenhouse gases hurts the economy, but we know that this is really about oil company profits. Audubon California and the entire conservation world is ready for a fight. We won't buy this argument that the environment is somehow to blame for the economic downturn. No, we know exactly where that came from.
