A blue ribbon panel appointed by the Fish and Game Commission to make recommendations on potential Marine Protected Areas along the South Coast yesterday approved a plan that includes several offshore closures to fishing. Audubon California and representatives of several local chapters have been involved in this process to highlight the need to protect key seabird breeding and foraging zones. The plan approved yesterday by the panel represents a compromise, so we'll have to take a closer look at it to determine whether or not we'll support it when it is considered by the full Fish and Game Commission.
