We've been watching reports on the listservs over the last few days of a rare sighting of a Louisiana Waterthrush at California City Central Park. For those not from the area, California City is roughly midway between Bakersfield and Barstow along Highway 58. Apparently, the bird is on a golf course. The photo above was taken by Thomas Benson yesterday. The Louisiana Waterthrush normally doesn't get much further west than central Mexico, where it winters. Otherwise, it's an eastern bird.
