OK, this was actually the LAST bird I saw two days ago, and the first bird I saw the next morning, but thought I'd mention it because it was so unusual: an osprey spent the night in a Norfolk Island pine near my house in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. First one I've ever seen in my neighborhood in my 50 years, and more than a mile from the nearest source of fish (San Elijo Lagoon). I suspect it was a juvenile looking for new territory.

Our first bird this morning was a California Towhee! Audubon Center at Debs Park 

pair that I couldn't identify: very red heads, very shiny black on top and downy white underneath. My "local birds of Santa Barbara County" chart didn't show them...
