Wow, lots of responses to today's Firstbird survey. And a great list. Glancing at the list, we see a lot of Acorn Woodpeckers, California Towhees, Crows, House Finch, and mockingbirds. But lots and lots of variety. Probably more than 60 different species in all. Also great to have contributions from outside of California, and the U.S., for that matter. Brewer's Blackbirds at the seed scattered under my feeders. The male is doing a sort of arm-flexing thing with his wings -- I suspect a mating display. The female, not impressed at all, pecks him and chases him out of the way so she can get to the seed!
