Scott's Oriole arriving in Kern County

Bob Barnes reports seeing his first Scott's Oriole in Kern County's Butterbredt Springs Tuesday morning. This is a great bird to see, so striking with its yellow and black. It typically starts arriving in California about this time of year, but doesn't really get going until April. According to the range maps, they don't seem to get much further north than Central California. We love the rest of Barnes' post: "the early phases of spring migration are upon Kern County. Soon will be reports of FOS Hooded Oriole and Bullock's Oriole plus possible FOS Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Warbling Vireo, Wilson's Warbler, and a parade of species and numbers into June when Yellow-billed Cuckoos will finally have arrived in the South Fork (Kern River) Valley."
