Seabirds and long line fishing

The Los Angeles Times' Greespace blog notes that the Fishing Vessel Owners Association, a fishing trade group, is taking steps to reduce seabird deaths due to long line fishing. The goal, apparently, is to use colored streamers above the fishing lines that will prevent birds from diving down on the bait.
