The folks at the Sonoma Index-Review take a look at the U.S. State of the Birds report and note that many Sonoma Valley species are on the decline. This includes birds such as Burrowing Owl, White Pelican and several species of songbirds. The report was issued by the U.S. Department of the Interior in collaboration with a number of nonprofit organizations, including Audubon, which provided decades of Christmas Bird Count data.
