The Tricolored Blackbird breeding season is ramping up fast. Audubon California's Xerónimo Castañeda captured these photos of nests in a dairy field in Merced County. In all, we've found seven Tricolored Blackbird colonies on dairy fields in three Central Valley counties, with another three reported but not confirmed. We've also found two colonies on habitat projects created on private lands with the help of the NRCS. You can help our efforts to protect these great birds here.
