Sad news coming out of northern California this week as thousands of migratory waterfowl are succumbing to avian botulism. Making the situation particularly bad is the ongoing drought striking the region, causing birds to gather in what few watered areas there are in the refuge. Water shortages are an ongoing problem for waterfowl in this refuge, as diversions continue to pull water away from what has been called the most important area for migratory waterfowl in the Lower 48. We'll have more on this developing story later this week.
