The Western Kingbird is another great bird of spring

One of our favorite birds of spring is the Western Kingbird. It's one of the early spring birds, so we've been enjoying the heck out of them for several weeks in the Western United States, but mostly California. One of things we love about these guys is their knack for exploding on the scene. After spending the winter in southern Mexico and Central America, they come up fast. It's kind of the opposite of now-you-see-them-now-you-don't. Anyway check out the eBird maps below the fold to see how they burst on the scene in March and continue to hold strong in all kinds of habitats -- woodlands, riparian forests, ag lands, even deserts (photo by TexasEagle, via Flickr).
