Why the Golden Eagle is a 2012 Bird of the Year nominee

While we feel like all the Eagle has to do to justify its nomination is play the above video and then drop the mike and walk off the stage; we recognize there are those of you who require more of conservation reason.

Since the passing of the U.S. Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act in 1962, it has been a protected species. The majestic Eagle lives in open grasslands from Modoc Plateau to the Mojave Desert.  Unfortunately, this area is also ideal for capturing wind. Thousands of Eagles have been maimed, injured, and killed by the turbines used to generate wind energy, particularly in Altamont Pass. Audubon California works with policy-makers on creating alternative energy solutions that provide a safe environment for these and other California birds.

If you want to acknowledge the fight to help the Golden Eagle, vote for it to be our Bird of the Year.
