Audubon California birding

Lots of interesting birds being spotted at Audubon California sites around the state

  • Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary (Marin): Red-necked Phalarope, Ruddy Turnstone, Black Turnstone, Lesser Yellowlegs, Long-billed Curlew, Willow Flycatcher, Wilson’s Warbler and a first-of-the-season White-crowned Sparrow.
  • Audubon Center at Debs Park (Los Angeles):Vaux’s Swifts and Turkey Vultures.
  • Audubon Bobcat Ranch (near Winters):  About 20 Lewis’s Woodpeckers this past Monday along with two Rufous-crowned Sparrows were the highlights, amongst the usuals of Oak Titmouse, Acorn Woodpecker, Yellow-billed Magpie, etc.
  • Audubon Kern River Preserve (South Fork Kern River Valley): Lots of Turkey Vultures (good timing as the annual Turkey Vulture Festival approaches) as well as Ferruginous Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks, American Goldfinch, woodpeckers (Nuttall's, Downy, Hairy) and Northern Flicker.
  • Audubon Starr Ranch Sanctuary (Orange County): Barn Owls, of course.
