The State Fish and Game Commission yesterday moved one step closer to approving new protections for South Coast seabirds by directing staff to conduct an environmental review of the set of protections recommended by its Blue Ribbon panel last month. The plan will create a series of protected areas from Point Conception to the Mexican border. Audubon California, local chapters and Audubon members were greatly involved in this process because we see it as a great opportunity to support seabirds. The Commission will likely take up the plan for final approval next fall.
