Rumor: Governor to recommend cutting all General Fund support for state parks

So the latest rumor is that the Governor, in his budget announcement on Friday, will recommend cutting all General Fund support for California State Parks, and tie any future parks funding to the approval of new permits for drilling off the coast of Santa Barbara. Supporters of offshore drilling have been trying to create this choice for some time, because they know that Californians will be reluctant to lift their longstanding ban on new offshore drilling permits. Let's just say we hope this rumor isn't true. Clearly, it's time to find a dedicated funding stream for state parks so we can end these kind of political games once and for all. That's why Audubon California is endorsing the proposed state parks initiative for the 2010 ballot.
