The powerful storms that blew through Southern California a couple weeks ago caused a lot of damage at the Audubon Starr Ranch Sanctuary in Orange County. Floodwaters wiped out roads, damaged buildings, and made certain areas of the Sanctuary impassable. Thank goodness for the 10-person crew from the Orange County Conservation Corps. These young, at-risk adults have been doing amazing work at the ranch – mostly on conservation projects such as weed control, restoration and maintenance – learning valuable skills that will help them create a positive life for themselves. With the storms just behind us, the Sanctuary held a barbecue to honor the contribution of these awesome young people. More photos below:
OCCC CEO Max Carter came out for the barbecue today, along with Director of Operations Josh Volp, and Project Manager Jeremy Newton. Audubon California Director of Public Policy Dan Taylor came down to formally thank the crew.
