Editorial: Banning lead ammo isn't a 2nd Amendment issue

Those who have been following our work over the last few years know that we've been among the leaders in trying to ban the use of lead ammunition in California. We've been doing this because lead in the environment poses a dangerous threat to birds and wildlife. And it's an unnecessary risk, as other non-lead options exist. We just caught a great editorial out of the Des Moines Register on the subject, that directly rebuts those who say that banning lead restricts people's 2nd Amendment rights:

Prohibiting the use of lead shot is not about infringing on the rights of hunters, as opponents suggest. It is not an attempt to curtail the hunting of mourning doves, as opponents suggest. It has nothing to do with Second Amendment rights, as opponents suggest. Prohibiting lead shot is simply about protecting Iowa’s environment. It’s about not allowing hunters to continue to spread toxic lead all over Iowa fields and forests. They should not do it when they hunt doves. They should not do it when they hunt anything.
